Worship at First Baptist

Without question, the worship of God is the most important function of a church.  It is easy to define what worship is not. Worship is not entertainment; it is not evangelism; it is not activities and announcements; it is not an intellectual exercise; it is not an emotional high; and it is not a means to an end. It is the end itself.

We must remember that God is not seeking workers, but worshippers. God doesn't need us to accomplish God's work, but God does want our fellowship. The other things that we do for God in the church (teach, lead, give, etc.) are an outgrowth of our worship and our relationship to God.

At First Baptist, our services follow a specific theme each week through prayers, hymns, readings, special music and the sermon.

Care is taken to make this hour as meaningful as possible, with all elements of the service focusing our minds and affections on God.

Childrens' Worship at FBC Rome

What?

Children's Worship is a program planned to offer opportunities of worship for a certain age child in a way that enhances and encourages their worship experiences.

First: All age children will be invited to come forward for Moments with Children during the service. A minister or leader will lead them in a short time of worship.

Second: After this time together, boys and girls, ages four through second grade, will leave the sanctuary with their leaders to attend a time of Children's Worship. This will be planned to prepare the children for future worship experiences. It will include singing, praying, Bible stories, and learning the elements of the worship service.

Why?
First Baptist is committed to providing ministries to the entire family. We believe that families should worship together whenever possible. This act provides a very important example for the child when he observes his family in worship.

It can, however, be a very unsettling experience trying to keep a child quiet and orderly. This can actually cause a negative instead of positive attitude towards worship for parents and children. We believe that a mixture of formal worship with family and a time of Children's Worship can provide both opportunities needed for our families.

Therefore, children will participate in the service during the part they can understand. Then they will leave to enjoy a time of worship.

Where?
The children will exit the sanctuary on the left side and follow the leader to the second floor.
Chairs will be set, a piano in place and hymnals available so that we can experience a time of worship.

Parents will need to come get their children immediately after the service. Please do not send an older child to pick up a child younger than 1st grade.

Who?
When a child promotes into the 4 year Sunday School Department, they are invited to come to Children's Worship. After they complete the 2nd grade, they may choose when to begin remaining in the Worship Service until promotion Sunday.
