Grade School Children - Special Events

Life Verse:   A Life Verse is given to each child the first time they receive a Bible from the church family.  This occurs as a part of the Parent-Child Dedication, going into First Grade, or going into the Seventh Grade.  A verse is chosen carefully for each child and is used in various ways in their Faith Development

First Grade Bible Presentations:  As each child promotes into First Grade, the church presents them with a Bible.  We take very seriously the study of God's word and it is easier for their teachers when they all have the same Bible.

Camps and Retreats:  Camp ICON is a 5 day resident camp held early in June each year.  Children who have completed the 3rd grade through the 6th grade attend this camp held in Hayesville, NC.  This continues to be one of the strongest events of the year.  Our gradeschoolers enjoy being and learning together.  The emphasis is different each year but always relates to the name of the camp.  I.C.O.N. stands for Imitating Christ Our Namesake. This years camp will be held May 30-June 3.For 2010 forms click here.

Vacation Bible School:  Held for three days in the middle of June providing a fun and exciting way to learn more about Jesus and the Bible.  The theme changes from year to year but the time together is always special.  Children ages 4 through second grade are invited. Vacation Bible School will be held June 8-10.

Parent Child Dedications: Each family with a young child is given the opportunity to dedicate themselves and their child to the Lord.  These very special services are held during the morning worship service and are planned with the family.  The church makes promises and the parents respond with promises of their own. A Life Verse is given to the child which will be used many times during their growing years at the church.

Creative Arts Festival: This is a opportunity for the children of First Baptist through 6th grade to share some of their many talents. Children may choose to share a performing art, such as: singing, dancing, juggling, playing the piano, etc. Children may choose to share a culinary art and cook us a sample of their recipe and of course bring enough to share. Children may choose to share in the visual art area by display a special collection, art project, or creative writing. Encourage your child to be thinking about the gifts that they would like to share with our church family.
